A grand celebration!

The evening of Thursday 16th November marked the annual celebration of the Affinity Water and Mitsubishi Electric Young People of the Year or ‘YOPEYs’, generally referred to as the young people Oscars. Hosted in the grand Moor Park Mansion in Hertfordshire, the 13th YOPEY awards saw a celebration of 11 amazing finalists ranging from the ages of 12 to 22 who strived to win the title of either the ‘Senior YOPEY winner’ or ‘Junior YOPEY winner’, the two grand awards

GIVE IT UP FOR, BETH DAVIDSON!

At the age of 10 Beth Davidson learnt sign language so she could ‘buddy up’ with a fellow pupil who had Down’s Syndrome and difficulty communicating. It left her with a zeal for making sure non-verbal children have a voice.



Now she is breaking down the barriers of silence at a special school in Welwyn.

Jodie Cox is a tireless volunteer for several organisations. She is described as “full of enthusiasm, reliable, and welcoming”.



Jodie helps a host of organisations in Borehamwood including the town’s swimming club, scout group and library. She has also helped to put on several shows for local groups, such as artists and photographers.

Jodie is a freelance children’s illustrator.

There is no lie-in most weekends for brother and sister, Eddie and Alison Gelfs, who may have had the oldest dad in the UK. At 5am on weekends and bank holidays they are in the car with their mum and off to car boot sales. At the ‘car boots’ they fundraise as a way of thanking people who helped them through their late father’s final illnesses.

Ruby Crowe leads language courses for younger children and leads fundraising for charities at Hitchin Girls' School.



Ruby is part of Project Polyglot – a programme that sees older pupils from Hitchen Girls design and teach language lessons to younger children related to culture, literature and the arts.
